Privacy

This site sets no cookies, loads nothing from any other company, and keeps no record that could identify you. Here is everything it does record.

On your device. The tools run in your browser over data served from this site. Your browser keeps one flag in its local storage that says you have been here before, so the site can count returning visits; the flag says nothing else about you, and clearing the site's data in your browser removes it.

What a page tells us. When a page loads, when its answer scrolls into view, and when a partner link is clicked, the page tells this site so, with the page's address, your browser's user agent string, the hostname of the site that sent you, if any, and the returning flag. No cookie and no identifier travel with it, and your address is not stored.

Server logs. Like every web server, ours writes one line per request with your IP address, the page, the time, your browser's user agent string and the referring page. Those lines are kept for 52 days to spot abuse and to tell crawler traffic from readers, then deleted. Nothing else on this site stores your address.

If your browser blocks something. The site asks browsers to report anything its content security policy stopped them loading; a report names the page, the blocked address and your browser's user agent string, so a broken page can be fixed.

Partner links carry an identifier that tells the partner which page sent you and nothing about you; thedisclosure says how the site earns money.
